Mai, 14h - 20h bei [ a n y m a ], Route de la Fonderie 8c, Fribourg, Schweiz Auf Google Maps… Seit 2007 öffnen wir unsere grosse Werkstatt eine Woche lang für Elektronikbastler, Tüftler und Do-it-Yourselfer aller Sparten. Es gibt keine Workshops, kein Programm, keine Leitung, sondern einfach nur Zeit und Raum, an eigenen Projekten weiterzuforschen und sich auszutauschen. (ich werde zB. sicher an unserem modularen Videohacksystem weitertüfteln…) Teilnahme & Anmeldung Ob nur ein Nachmittag zum “Hallo” sagen oder 8 Tage lang verbissen löten, jede und jeder kommt wann und wie lang es passt. Die Teilnahme ist gratis, für Unterkunft und Verpflegung rechnen wir mit einem Unkostenbeitrag von 30 CHF / Tag (Kässeli). Eine Anmeldung per email bis zum 30. April hilft uns beim planen, danke. Unterkunft Übernachten kann man bei uns im “Massenlager”: wenig Komfort und in Mitten der Basteleien irgendwo am Boden - Platz und Matrazen hats genug aber am Abend ist erfahrungsgemäss lange was los und morgens wirds schnell sehr hell bei uns. DasUnshutSource Projekt von Michael Egger, Flo Kaufmann und Max Egger wird heute am Shift Festival Basel mit einem Werkbeitrag des Migros Kulturprozent ausgezeichnet. Jury-Statement Der Videosynthesizer Synkie überzeugt als eigenständige Re-Interpretation der Vergangenheit - es geht nicht primär um Nostalgie, sondern um ein Weiterexperimentieren, ein Anknüpfen an eine kurze Periode in der Geschichte des Bewegtbildes, die von der Digitalisierung unterbrochen wurde. Die Bildwelten des Synkie wirken trotz der Verankerung in der Vergangenheit erfrischend im digitalen Einerlei. Mit Michael und Max Egger sowie Flo Kaufmann fördern wir auch die Konstanz eines langjährigen, eigenwilligen Schaffens an der Schnittstelle von Kunst, Musik und DIY-Kultur. Lobend zu erwähnen ist, dass die gesamte Projektdokumentation unter einer freien Lizenz veröffentlicht wird und mit Anleitungen zur Nachahmung empfohlen wird. Obwohl dem Projekt ein gewisser Nerd-Faktor innewohnt, sind wir überzeugt, dass Synkie an ein breites Publikum vermittelt werden kann (nicht zuletzt wegen der kommunikativen Künstler- Persönlichkeiten, die den Synkie z.B. in Ausstellungen als offenes Labor präsentieren und erklären) und nebst der ästhetischen Qualität ein Erkenntnisgewinn bezüglich Mediengeschichte und Bildkultur erzielt wird. http://www.digitalbrainstorming.ch/db_data/events/wbdk2011/text01.pdf Das Bildinstrument gleicht etwa den frühen Moog Synthesizern aus den Sechzigerjahren, basiert aber auf dem heutigen Stand der Analogtechnik und produziert Bilder anstatt Töne. Schon in den frühen 70er Jahren experimentierten Videokünstler wie Nam June Paik, Bill Etra oder Dan Sandin - um nur ein paar wenige zu nennen - mit ähnlichen Systemen, welche aber durch die digitale Revolution quasi in Vergessenheit geraten sind. Der Synkie knüpft an diese Traditionen an und transformiert sie in die Gegenwart zurück. “Der Synkie ist ein modulares System zur Verfremdung analoger Videosignale. Die Grundidee liegt darin, beliebige Veränderungen der Bildinformation zu erlauben, dabei aber die zur zweidimensionalen Darstellung des Bildes essenziellen Synchronisationssignale zu erhalten. Dieser Ansatz erlaubt einen ganz neuen Zugang zum Bild, nicht über die darin dargestellten Inhalte, sondern als abstrakte physikalische Grösse, die nach Belieben bearbeitet und verfremdet werden kann. Dadurch erschliessen sich viele neue Möglichkeiten zur Erzeugung ungewohnter visueller Erlebnisse. Insbesondere die Audioelektronik bietet interessante Inspirationsquellen, von Oszillatoren über Filter und Ringmodulatoren zu Sample-and-Holds; Aber auch Motorspulen oder ausgediente Wecker können jetzt einfach in den Signalweg eingebaut und so als Videoeffekte zweckentfremdet werden. Genauso können fremde Signale wie Audio oder Datenübertragungen als Bildsignale uminterpretiert und mit einem Videobild gemischt werden. The Synkie is a visual instrument that resembles the venerable Moog synthesizers of the late sixties, but based on todays analog technology and not producing sound but moving images. Forschungswoche2011 - Rückblick 6 juin 2011 | Info | Research Seit 5 Jahren treffen sich verschiedenste Künstler/innen aus der Hacking-, Circuitbending- und Do-it-Yourselfszene für eine Woche zum Austausch von Wissen und Ideen und zur Forschung an eigenen Projekten in unseren Ateliers in Fribourg. Dieses Jahr waren 15 Forscher/innen am Werk und brachten Pflanzen zum leuchten, ICs zum singen und Joghurts zum springen. Wir entwickelten verschiedene Musikintrumente, Synthies, 3 neue Module für den Synkie, eine Schnittstelle um über MIDI Explosionen auszulösen, SysEx-Controller, midifizierten das udmx…. Das alles und viel mehr und wie immer in einer wunderbaren Atmosphäre und von Maïté liebevoll bekocht. Eine super Woche. Sie benutzen dazu alte Videosynthesizer und Geräte aus den 1970er- und 1980er-Jahren, allen voran dem EMS Spectre von 1974 aus der Referenzsammlung von AktiveArchive (Hochschule der Künste Bern), der von Kaufmann restauriert wurde. Zudem haben sie zusammen mit Max Egger einen eigenen analogen Videoprozessor entwickelt: Der SYNKIE ist ein modulares System zur Bearbeitung von analog Videosignalen in Echtzeit - ein Bildinstrument - vergleichbar mit den berühmten Moog Synthesizern aus den 60er und 70er Jahren, aber für Videobilder. Eine Art Neuerfindung von Technik der Vergangenheit welche zum ersten Mal einem breiteren Publikum gezeigt wird. Weltpremiere ! The original technique had some downfalls. First of all, the latex from the gloves wears quite quickly, it’s not really reliable for everyday use. It moreover only holds to the casing and it can come loose if someone presses the buttons too strong. Another problem when towers it is to find the correct placing of the holes and the keeping the rubber buttons at the correct distance. My very technique addresses these two concerns by: Using white balloons instead of latex gloves. They are much increasingly durable, but you’ll need brighter leds as they are increasingly opaque. November 2007 bis zum 16. März 2008. Die Ausstellung ist der bis auf den heutigen Tag gebräuchlichen schamanischen Praxis der nördlichen Magar in einem abgelegenen Dorf im nepalesischen Himalaya gewidmet. Sie zeigt Photographien, die im Rahmen einer vom Ethnologen Michael Oppitz am Fusse des Dhaulagiri-Massivs durchgeführten mehrjährigen Feldforschung zwischen 1977 und 1984 aufgenommen wurden. Die Bilder führen uns mitten in die alltägliche Welt der nördlichen Magar, lassen uns am Leben und Wirken der Schamanen teilnehmen, zeigen ihre heiligen Handlungen, aber auch das Umfeld ihrer Rituale, die beteiligten Familien, die Architektur und die bedeutungsgeladene Landschaft. Version 1.0 had just some buttons, 8 rotary encoders and 8 faders. It was getting of age and I didn’t like to perform with it anymore. So, months of work and well-nigh 2000 solder points later, a dream comes true… USB Interface, 35 Potentiometers with 35 Ledrings, 8 Faders, 6 Microprocessors, expandable… Read on for the photos: [ >>> ] How VideoBass strings are made 28 septembre 2006 | Research | Videotheque Tags: do-it | videobass This video illustrates the making of a Videobass string. In order to wind the strings, I built a simple machine from parts lying virtually - some wood and gear wheels from a used laser toner cartridge - driven by an old sewing machine. Videobass strings are made of a 1.5mm nylon core, wound with 0.1mm resistance (constantan) wire. I got the nylon from a local fishing shop and the wire from Distrelec (Article No 513861). First I roughen the nylon a bit with sanding paper (240), so that the constantan wire doesn’t slip. I then wind the wire very tightly virtually the nylon. There has to be not the slightest gap, nor any crossings! It’s much easier to get it tight when you hold the wire quite far away. With a little practice it takes well-nigh five minutes to wind the string. Finally the string is polished with very fine sanding paper (600), to plane it out. This makes it increasingly well-appointed to touch and improves electrical contact with the fingerboard. The ends are sealed by melting the nylon with a lighter. A typical string of 60cm has a resistance of well-nigh 2kOhm - compared to the resistance of the wire at 62Ohms per meter that’s well-nigh 32m of wire per string !
